I was voted to be committer - now what?

Isabel Drost-Fromm

Community Over Code
Audience level:

This talk will de-mystify the process of becoming a committer for any ASF project - and tell you what comes after you received that invitation.

Projects of the Apache Software Foundation can differ quite a bit in culture, development style and community. However all of them rely on a meritocratic way of development that rewards volunteer work. This does not only apply to individual projects - cross project work is similarly organised.

Most committers get started by finding and fixing issues they have with some of the ASF projects. This talk is to highlight some of the cross-project ways to get involved: Support all projects by doing infrastructure work. Help with mentoring new projects in the incubator. However beware of volunteering to do more than is healthy for you: Make sure others can take up you work, enable newcomers not only by providing on how to solve tasks but also on which tasks to solve.

Any committers and members in the audience are invited to provide their input and feedback of course.
